David Britton (Tenor)

The American tenor, David Britton, studied at North Texas State University, the Manhattan School of Music and the Julliard School.

David Britton began his career both as a regional musical theater artist with more than 30 musicals and operettas to his credit; and as an early music performer and baroque specialist, he sang as solo artist with the New York ProMusica Antiqua, the Waverly Consort and the Bach Aria Group, the latter since 1983.

David Britton has been a featured vocal soloist with New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the Los Angeles Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony, and the Philadelphia Orchestra, among others. Abroad, his solo orchestra engagements include the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, L'Orchestre National de France, L'Orchestre de Montreal, the Mexico City Symphony, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Caracas Symphony, and the Hamburg Radio Orchestra. He has sung with noted conductors Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein, Eduardo Mata, Antal Doráti, Charles Dutoit, Raymond Leppard, Gerard Schwarz, Helmuth Rilling, Sir David Willcocks, and many others.

David Britton has a repertoire of over 50 operatic roles and he has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, the San Francisco Opera, the New York City Opera, the Dalla, New Orleasn, and Philadelphia Operas and numerous regional companies in the USA, South America and in Europe. He has also been soloist with the prestigious Mostly Mozart Festival, and the Spoleto (Italy), Aspen, Caramoor, Robin Hood Dell, and Chautauqua Festivals.

David Britton has recorded with EMI, Angel, Musical Heritage, Voce, and Music and Arts records.

David Britton, tenor and professor of voice, has been a member of the Arizona State University voice faculty since 1987. He is a noted recitalixt, clinician, and adjudicator and has given many master classes at universities, singing festivals and at National Association of Teachers of Singing conventions. David is married to contralto Kathryn Carter and father of seven children.
