Bremer RathsChor (Choir)

Founded: Bremen, Germany

The Bremer RathsChor performs demanding choral music at a high level. Thorough rehearsals and intensive, substantive discussion of the works are the basic conditions of the team-work. In condense reharsal periods, the respective programmes are rehearsed and then presented to the public. Engagements with Radio Bremen and Deutschlandradio Kultur are resulting from the long-standing collaboration with Wolfgang Helbich. There was radio broadcasts of J.S. Bach’s Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245). The classic label Dreyer-Gaido started to record the Bremer RathsChor only haslrf a year after the choir was founded and the first CD production was J.S. Bach’s Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248).

After Wolfgang Helbichg became Domkantor and made Bremen his musical home, a circle of friends founded Bremer RathsChor e.V., which includes many prominent Bremer citizens. First Chairman of the association is a former mayor of Bremen Dr. Henning Scherf.
