Wilfried Van den Brande (Bass-Baritone)

Born: Belgium

The Belgian bass-baritone, Wilfried Van den Brande, received a thorough all round training from father (conductor, director, bass and Flemish Chamber Opera manager Arnold Brand). He made his debut in Erfurt (Germany) at the age of 28. Studies with Albrecht Klora and becomes laureate of the International Mary Garden Competition.

In Belgium Wilfried Van den Brande performed at la Monnaie, de Vlaamse Opera, Muziektheater Transparant, Muziektheatercollectief Walpurgis. He was invited by The Flemish Radio Orchestra (Verdi Requiem), by the Royal Flanders Philharmonic (Méphistophèles in Charles Gounod’s Faust), by the Flemish Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra, the Prometheus Ensemble, Prima la Musica and the Beethoven Academie.

Wilfried Van den Brande sang in Rome with the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, in Spain with the Real Filarmonia de Galicia and the Orquestra Sinfonica de Asturias, in Denmark at the Roskilde Schubertiade with the Wiener Kammerorchester and the Wiener Schubert Ensemble, in Berlin with the Zeitgenoessische Oper, in Vienna with the Wiener Taschen Oper, in London at Covent Garden Festival, in Slovenia at the Radovlica Festival, in Israel in Tel-Aviv (a concert series of Mozart’s Requiem), in Germany with the Nürnberger Symphoniker, the Heidelberger Philharmoniker and the Philharmonisches Orchester Süd-Westfalen and travelled throughout several European countries with Muziektheater Transparant.

Wilfried Van den Brande worked with conductors like Dietfried Bernet, Kenneth Montgomery, Jos Van Immerseel, Silvio Varviso, Hans Rotman, Massimo Zanetti, Michel Tilkin, Martin Haselböck, Frank Beermann and with directors like Robert Carsen, Pierre Audi, Johan Simons, Ivo Van Hove and Ian Burton. In recital Wilfried is accompanied by pianists Angeline Pondepeyre and Tobias Koch.

In January 2004 Talent Records label invited him to Nürnberg to record a french aria album with the Nürnberger Symphoniker, conducted by Hans Rotman. This CD was launched in August 2004 at 2 open air concerts in Nürnberg with the Symphoniker and will be the first of a series to come.
