Ulrich Brall (Conductor)

Born: Germany

The biography of the conductor Ulrich Brall is closely connected with the history of the Choir of Görres-Gymnasium and the former St. Andrew Hofkirche. Since the foundation of the choir in 1971 until today, Ulrich Brall leads the centuries-old musical tradition of the Görres-Gymnasium (established 1545) in Düsseldorf. In 1984 he made a tour with the orchestra and choir of a school performing J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244). The tour brought them to Rome, Florence, inside the Basilica of Francisus in Assissi and to the Cathedral of St Malo in France. Highlights of past years were concerts in Granada, Cordoba and Rome. They have appeared at the Altstadtherbst Kulturfestival Düsseldorf since its foundation.

In recognition of his artistic commitment to the Franco-German reconciliation, the French Ministry of Culture awarded him in 1988 the medal of Chevalier dans l'Ordre National des Arts et Lettres. Ulrich Brall also holds the Cross for Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
