Founded in 1963 in East Berlin, the Berliner Singakademie (= BSA) is one of the great oratorio choirs Berlin. With performances of choral-symphonic works and a-cappella concerts the choir has a keen interest in the musical life of Berlin.
In their conceptual and artistic concerns the Berliner Singakademie continues a tradition started by Karl Friedrich Fasch, harpsichordist to the court of Prussia, who founded in 1791 the "Singe-Academie zu Berlin" Society on the model of the 18th century London Academy of Ancient Music.
The range of concerts of the Berliner Singakademie extends from classical choral works of J.S. Bach and George Frideric Handel to unknown and forgotten works by major composers, including premieres of the music of the 20th Century, with the directors of the BSA, each with his personal emphasis.
Whether Renaissance madrigals, large choral-symphonic or the musical language of Modernism: thanks to a high personal commitment, the Berliner Singakademie with its extensive repertoire has gained recognition and has become a reference for high artistic quality.
