Johannes Bamberger (Tenor)

Born: St. Pölten, Austruia

The Austrian tenor, Johannes Bamberger, began his musical education at the Musikschule in his home town of St. Pölten under the tutelage of Jeannie Mayr, and later with Bernd Fröhlich in Vienna. Since 2013, he has been studying voice at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien (University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna; MDW) with University Professor Bernhard Adler and University Professor Rainer Trost.

Johannes Bamberger has performed as a soloist in many early music pieces by composers such as Heinrich Schütz, Samuel Scheidt, Johann Hermann Schein, and Monteverdi. In 2015 the young tenor made his debut as both the Evangelist in J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) and the tenor soloist in George Frideric Handel's Messiah. That year also saw Johannes perform in a concert for the "Fritz Wunderlich Gesellschaft" in the first "Fritz Wunderlich Music Days (Musiktagen)". Recently, under the guidance of Domkapellmeister Otto Kargl (St Pölten), he performed a varied program of sacred music and oratorios including Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri (2014, his debut there), J.S. Bach's St. Matthew's Passion (BWV 244) (2015), Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah, as well as various masses and cantatas from composers such as W.A. Mozart, Schubert and Haydn.

Johannes Bamberger made his first operatic appearances at the MDW in Monteverdi's L’incoronazione di Poppea (2015) singing the roles of Soldat 1. & Liberto and performing the role of Mozart in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Mozart und Salieri (2016). In March 2016, he sang the role of Bardolfo in Verdi's Falstaff in the Palace Theater Schönbrunn with esteemed conductor and University Professor Christoph Ulrich Meier. In August 2016, he successfully debuted as Don Ottavio in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, also in the Schönbrunn Palace Theater under of the baton of Guido Mancusi. In the early part of the 2016-2017 season, he also had two important role debuts with the MDW. He performed the part of Cecco in Haydn's Il mondo della luna in Hainburg and Vienna, and portrayed the role of Belmonte in W.A. Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem serail. He also appeared as Ecclitico in Haydn's Il mondo della Luna for his debut with the Landestheater Linz in Winter/Spring 2017. He will be member of the "Junges Ensemble des Theater an der Wien" for the seasons 2018-2019 2019-2020.

In April 2017, Johannes Bamberger debuted as the tenor soloist in J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245), in the Festspielhaus St. Pölten under of the baton of Otto Kargl. Another highlight of his season was his debut as Uriel in Haydn's Creation under the baton of Heinz Ferlesch at the prestigious Stift Melk.
