Norman Andersson (Bass-Baritone)

The American bass-baritone, Norman Andersson, was a graduate of Temple University. He earned a master's degree in music at Indiana University, where he studied with Margaret Harshaw.

Norman Andersson made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1981 as Abimélech in Samson et Dalila. He sang 140 performances of fifteen supporting roles at the Met between 1981 and 1986. His Met appearances included roles in Puccini's Madama Butterfly and Charles Gounod's Romeo et Juliette. He also sang with opera companies in Newark, Dallas, Philadelphia and New Orleans. He was a soloist with a number of orchestras, among them the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra and Brooklyn Philharmonic.

Norman Andersson died of AIDS aged 40 at his home in Chatham Center, New York. He was survived by his mother, Marian, of Palm Harbor, Florida.
