María-Luz Álvarez (Soprano)

Born: Madrid, Spain

The Spanish-born Canadian soprano, María-Luz Álvarez, studied with Max van Egmond and Peter Kooy.

María-Luz Álvarez is known for performance and recording of early music, mosdtly in Spain and the Naetherlands. She has sung in the Capilla Real de Madrid, Huelgas Ensemble, Capella Figuralis under the direction of Jos van Veldhoven, Al Ayre Español and the Egidius Ensemble and Amsterdam Baroque Choir under the direction of Ton Koopman. She also recorded a dozen CD's for a number of labels in Europe, including Harmonia Mundi.

In 2003, María-Luz Álvarez met a jeweller who lives in Thompson, Manitoba, Canada. Since 2005 she has been a permanent resident of Canada and is settled in Thompson, Manitoba. In May 2012, she sang in Winnipeg with the vocal ensemble Camerata Nova and members of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in a program of music revolving around the idea of pilgrimage through the ages.
