David Åhlén (Conductor)

Born: 1885
Died: 1969

The Swedish conductor, David Åhlén, established a Bach tradition in Sweden at the request of the Nobel prizewinner, Archbishop Nathan Söderblom, which later spread to other churches in the country.

As cantor at Engelbrekt Church in Stockholm, David Åhlén conducted St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) every Easter between 1923 and 1956. A Swedish Radio tape recording of the last performance was published by Caprice label.
