Timothy Reynolds (Tenor)

Born: Australia

The Australian tenor, Timothy Reynolds, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Melbourne (2007); his Postgraduate Diploma of Teaching (Music, Secondary) from the University of Melbourne (2009); and his Master of Music degree in Opera Performance from the University of Melbourne in conjunction with Victorian Opera (2013).

Timothy Reynolds is a versatile performer, working in opera, oratorio and chamber groups. He has appeared with Australia’s finest early music ensembles, including Pinchgut Opera, Ludovico’s Band, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Adelaide Baroque Orchestra, La Compañia and the Melbourne Bach Choir. Concert and recital performances include appearances with The Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and the MSO. He is a regular performer of the works of J.S. Bach, including The Evangelist in the Johannes-Passion BWV 245 as well as the arias of both the Johannes-Passion BWV 245 and Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, and is a frequent guest at St John’s Southgate for their St Johns Southgate: Bach Cantata Service.

Timothy Reynolds has also sung as a soloist an ensemble member of the Consort of Melbourne, the Gloriana Chamber Choir and the Palestrina Project and toured to Germany as a member of the Australian Chamber Choir (2010). In Europe he understudied a number of roles at Oper Stuttgart in Germany, and performed with The Bach Akademie Stuttgart, Opera Holland Park, Hampstead Garden Opera, Gesualdo Consort Amsterdam (Director: Harry van der Kamp), Philharmonischer Chor Esslingen, and at the Edinburgh Fringe. A passionate ensemble performer, he is a member of the Consort of Melbourne, Melbourne Octet, Australia’s premier vocal ensemble The Song Company (since 2023), and Bach Akademie Australia (since 2014; Director: Madeleine Easton).

Some of Timothy Reynolds's recent performances include the Evangelist in J.S. Bach’s Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Pompeo in Pinchgut Opera’s production of Antonio Vivaldi's Farnace (2019), Benjamin Britten's Cantata Misericordium with the Omega Ensemble, a selection of Purcell with the Adelaide Baroque Orchestra, Ruodi in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell (Victorian Opera, 2019), and the Jester in Ottorino Respighi's Sleeping Beauty (Victorian Opera, 2019 & 2021). He also has an interest in modern works, performing in Brett Dean’s The Last Days of Socrates with the MSO, Paul Hindemith's Zwölf Madrigale in Amsterdam, and in Elliot Carter’s What Next as Zen with Victorian Opera (2012).
