Daniel Walker (Tenor)

Born: Australia

The Australian composer, conductor, performer (tenor singer) and educator, Daniel (Dan) Walker, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from the Queensland Conservatorium of Griffith University (1996-2000).

Daniel Walker is one of Australia's most in-demand choral specialists. His compositional output includes commissions for Gondwana Voices, the Birralee Blokes, the Nittany Valley Children's Choir of Pennsylvania, Halcyon ensemble and the Sydney Children's Choir. He has been composer-in-residence for the Moorambilla Festival for the past six years and is often engaged to compose for ensembles both in Australia and abroad. His work, Out There, is a featured piece in the 2014 South Australian Primary Schools Choral Festival, where it will be performed by some 14,000 young singers in numerous venues across the state.

Daniel Walker is an also active arranger and regularly produces work for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and record label ABC Classics. His work for television includes the iconic 2009 I Still Call Australia Home advertising campaign for Qantas.

As a performer, Daniel Walker is a member of Sydney-based Cantillation, Pinchgut Opera in Sydney (since September 2003) and the professional vocal ensemble. He has been a guest performer with The Song Company, the choir of Bach Akademie Australia (Director: Madeleine Easton), and was a founding member of early music ensemble The Parson’s Affayre. He also He is a keenly sought-after conductor, often appearing as chorus-master for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony Choruses and was an associate conductor of Gondwana Choirs from 2006 to 2014. He is now both musical director of the Melbourne group, Choristry, and the newly created Habeas Chorus, a choir for the Melbourne legal community.

In the education field, Daniel Walker has been Choral Director / Workshop Leader at Gondwana Choirs in Sydney (February-December 2002); Choral Director at St Ignatius College in Riverview (February 2012-August 2013); Composition Tutor and Choral Director at St Catherine's School in Waverley (February 2002-March 2014); Associate Artistic Director of Gondwana Choirs in Sydney (January 2013-April 2014); Composition Tutor at Cranbrook School (January-May 2014).
